Kumarakom Lake Resort – India’s Best 5 Star Hotel 2012 - 2013
Kumarakom Lake Resort has been awarded as India’s Best Hotel in the 5 star category at the National Tourism Awards, for the year 2012 – 2013. The multi-award winning Kumarakom Lake Resort has another laurel added to its hat when at the award ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on the 18th of February 2014, the resort was announced as India’s Best 5 Star Category Hotel.
Selection was based on various critieria including qualifications and certifications related to service quality, security, eco-friendly measures and on increase in annual room revenue and foreign exchange earnings. Consideration is also given to other awards and accolades that the property has received.
Over the years, Kumarakom Lake Resort has received immense international recognition, having been awarded several times over as India’s Leading Resort and as India’s Green Resort by the World Travel Awards. The resort has been voted as one of Top 500 Hotels & Resorts in the World by Travel & Leisure and as one of Asia’s Top 25 Resorts by Conde Nast Traveler. Kumarakom Lake Resort has also been acclaimed with impressive reviews in many renowned publications including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. Patrons have voted the resort with all stars on TripAdvisor thus placing the resort at the top of the list of resorts in Kerala.
The resort has had the honor of having eminent celebrities enjoy its facilities and the most recent being The Royal Highness Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, who stayed at the resort on the Prince’s 64th birthday.

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India presents National Tourism Awards to various segments of the travel and tourism industry every year. These awards are presented to State Governments / Union Territories, classified hotels, heritage hotels, approved travel agents, tour operators and tourist transport operators, individuals and other private organizations in recognition of their performance in their respective fields and also to encourage healthy competition with an aim to promoting tourism. The selection of the awardees is made by Committees constituted for the purpose and the decision of the Ministry of Tourism is final and binding.
